The Colegio Mayor Santa María del Buen Aire is located in the town of Castilleja de Guzmán, to the northwest of Seville, near the Aljarafe. It is situated in an area, which even today, despite immense growth, still appears isolated from the hustle and bustle of a busy city. It is around 7 minutes away from Seville by car.
The residence is a former palace, dating back to the 14th century, and is the property of the University of Seville. The Andalusian government has declared the building a national heritage site. The university renovated the building in 2010 to improve the quality of the bedrooms and bathrooms. A number of services have also been added to keep up with modern demands (24 hours reception service, own transport, laundry facilities, room cleaning and a traditional kitchen).
Among the former students of the residence are some of the city’s most noted personalities, including the poet and writer Antonio Gala. Starting in 2010, the residence is now mixed for the first time in its history.
