History to the present day

St Catharine's, or "Catz" as the College is known, was founded in 1473, by Robert Woodlark. He chose a small site next to Kings and a close relationship with that college has been maintained. Originally a small college, it gradually acquired buildings around and was largely rebuilt in the 17th century, with work starting on the Main Court in 1673 and the Chapel being completed in 1704.

Copies of the College history and postcards are available from the Porters' Lodge.

Food and Drinks

A hearty traditional English breakfast is served in the College's Great Hall, from 7.30am-9.00am each day.  On Saturday and Sunday breakfast is extended until 09.30am.

Guests are very welcome to use the fully licensed College bar.

Other facilities

Wireless internet access is available to guests at no extra charge in all public areas and in the accommodation.

There is a small luggage room available, which guests are welcome to leave their luggage in. However, the College cannot be held responsible for any theft/damage to any items left on site.

The porter at check in was really helpful and friendly. We were very impressed with our room that was two separate rooms with en- suite in a beautiful college setting and very clean. The cooked breakfast had lots of choice with good quality ingredients. Very good value for central Cambridge location.

Helpful desk, central location with grand old and more modern spacious accommodation, plentiful hot and cold buffet breakfast, beautiful gardens, friendly atmosphere, wide range of local restaurants and shops.
Mrs Philomena W

We enjoyed our stay so much in St. Catharines, our room was lovely and so quiet and peaceful. The location is superb right in the historic centre of Cambridge. Breakfast was help yourself with choice of continental or full English, and it wasvrealky giid, kept us going for the day. It was so peaceful to just sit in the sunshine in the Quad after breakfast surrounded by historic buildings. We were sad to leave St. Catharines and Cambridge.
Ms Bernadette M

Lovely Cambridge experience, thank you
Ms Annette J

I didn't have an experience of sharing bathroom. But facilities were clean and overall had a good experience. The location is excellent
Miss Darina M

This was a wonderful experience. OK, a student room will never be as swish as a hotel room, but very few hotels come with this sort of wow factor. My wife and I had a great break here - thank you
Mr Jim S
