Set in 42 acres of open parkland in the north west corner of the city, Churchill College's location is a ten minute walk (or a short bus ride) from the historic city centre. Parking, which is at a premium in this city, is free and plentiful at our college. Please note, the College cannot accommodate pets.

Whilst not old like some other colleges, the light, generously proportioned rooms fulfill the needs of the modern traveller, including a spacious desk and free WiFi with a hospitality tray and toiletries.

History to the present day

Founded in 1958, Churchill College is the National and Commonwealth Memorial to Sir Winston Churchill. Nobel Prize winners Francis Crick, discoverer of the structure of DNA, and Anthony Hewish, the discoverer of the pulsar, were amongst its founding Fellows.

Food and Drinks

Full English and continental breakfasts are included and are served either in the college Buttery or the main Dining Hall between 07.30 and 09.30.

For lunch and dinner, guests are welcome to use either the dining hall or the buttery on a cash basis subject to opening hours and occasional private bookings.

Please note this is not self-catering accommodation, the student kitchen facilities are not for external guests.

The Buttery bar is open throughout the day for snacks and drinks (subject to some restricted opening times).  It provides the perfect space for catching-up with emails whilst relaxing with a refreshing drink, and a piano is available for those with a musical bent.

Grounds and gardens

Our spacious grounds are home to an extensive collection of contemporary sculptures from a variety of well-known artists. They provide the perfect backdrop for an hour or two relaxing in the sun with a cool drink and a good book.

Other facilities

Additional facilities for residents include an on-site laundry, a TV room, an all day bar and café (subject to some restricted opening times) and sports facilities including squash and tennis courts and a multi-gym. Sports equipment, irons and hair dryers can all be borrowed from the Porters' Lodge.

Please note this is not self-catering accommodation, the student kitchen facilities are not for external guests.

There is plentiful free parking on site. However, please note spaces cannot be reserved, it operates on a first come first serve basis.

Mr Peter H

Excellent base for working at the archives; great to have facility to buy dinner and lunch at extra cost. Wonderfully helpful staff in porter's lodge. The room was spacious and, if a little on the 'tired' side, a good and clean facility. An excellent experience, much appreciated.
Dr Richard G

First time staying in university accommodation - tranquil surroundings and a very enjoyable experience. Room was basic but comfortable and had everything necessary (en suite, tea/coffee). Pleasant change to enjoy a night's sleep away from home uninterrupted by the noise of other guests - as can happen when staying in even the most expensive hotels!
Miss Karen E H

Very much enjoyed my stay: all very easy due to efficiency of staff and booking process.
Mrs Helen S

Well located, staff at porters lodge friendly and helpful on arrival, room clean, just right for 1 or 2 night stay.
