Mansfield is one of the smallest of the 38 University of Oxford colleges and is ideally located in a leafy part of central Oxford close to the University Parks, Science area and 5 minutes walk from the City centre.

The College is pleased to offer accommodation in student bedrooms during the vacation periods.

Please note that during August there will be some re-surfacing of the College quadrangle and relaying of steps taking place at the College.  This is likely to involve some noisy surface work during the working day.   No work will be carried out between 18.00 and 08.00.  The quad re-surfacing should be completed by the end of August.  Guests are still very welcome.

The accommodation choice consists of traditional student study bedrooms with shared bathroom facilities (singles and twins) or  modern, single ensuite rooms.  All accommodation is located on the main College site.

There are no parking facilities available at the College.

All rooms are fully equipped with bed linen, towels and tea and coffee making facilities. Wi Fi internet access is free for the first four hours followed by a small on-line fee after that. Hairdryers can be hired from the Porter's Lodge.

The College Porter's Lodge is open 24 hours a day and late night / early morning arrivals are permitted where required.

The College provides a full English and continental breakfast.

Guests are very welcome to use the College Crypt Cafeteria and Bar throughout their stay.

We look forward to welcoming you and your guests to Mansfield.

History to the present day

The College transferred to Oxford from Birmingham in 1886 and became a Free Church centre for the study of theology, preparing students from any dissenting denomination for the ministry.

Building work began on the current college site, which was purchased from Merton College in October 1886 and was completed at a cost of £40,000 in October 1889.  The original Gothic style buildings are regarded as amongst the finest work of the prominent Victorian Architect Basil Champneys.

Mansfield admitted its first female student, Constance Todd, who later became the first woman to be ordained to the Christian ministry in Britain in 1913.

Mansfield College became a Permanent Private Hall in 1955 and received a Royal Charter in 1995, becoming a full college of the University of Oxford.

The College is a small, friendly college with about 400 students and 70 staff, some of which belong to the Senior Common Room.  It has a reputation within and beyond Oxford of encouraging applications from the state sector and in particular from students in Further Education.

A wonderful residence, one that is not too far away from all the university locations but tucked away enough that it does not have tourist traffic. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the room was kept in perfect condition. Highly recommend.
