History to the present day
Somerville College was founded in 1879, in response to a growing demand to provide an Oxford education for women. Its founders named the College in honour of the Scottish mathematician and scientist Mary Somerville (1780-1872), and the Somerville family arms and motto (the notoriously untranslatable "Donec rursus impleat orbem") were adopted.
The choice of name was significant. The College’s founders admired Mary Somerville both as a remarkable scholar, and for her religious and political views. She was a self-taught science writer, wife, mother of 5 children. In 1868, was the first person to sign John Stuart Mill’s petition to Parliament in support of women’s suffrage. Having been denied formal educational opportunities herself, she was a fervent advocate of access to education for other women.
Somerville alumnae have achieved an impressive number of “firsts” - the first, and only, British woman to win a Nobel prize in science(Dorothy Hodgkin); the highest ranking female officer of her time in the British intelligence services (the Queen of Spies, Daphne Park); the first woman to lead the world’s largest democracy (Indira Gandhi); the first Indian woman barrister (Cornelia Sorabji) and the first woman Prime Minister of this country(Margaret Thatcher).
Countless others have forged path-breaking careers in academic life, politics, literature, science, law, business, education and the media.

Mr Richard G, October 2015:
Miss Fernanda O, October 2015:
Mrs josephine S, September 2015:
Dr Chantal B, September 2015: Very nice place and very friendly people
Will recommend to friends
Mrs Patricia S, September 2015:
Mr Nick G, September 2015: Porters were superb. Very friendly and welcoming. Terrific.
Mrs Claire R, September 2015:
Dr Kate B, September 2015:
Prof Lalage B, September 2015: The Porters at the College Lodge were especially helpful and friendly
NOTE I did not have breakfast as it was served too late for me to take it
Dr Shireen A, September 2015: My stay was very nice. Beatiful place and very nice people. The only minor comment was that the bed was not so comfortable.
Ms Loring S, September 2015: A true delight to be able to stay in Somerville College. Such a history of women's efforts and achievements! I hope to return for a longer stay.
Miss Francesca G, September 2015: Great experience in an historical building. I appreciated the breakfast in dinig hall on high tables, the quiet and the wonderful venue. People were very friendly
Mr Glenn M, August 2015: Friendly, helpful staff, excellent architectural design of building, right in heart of old world traditional Oxford. Better than any hotel anywhere in UK at the same price-point.
Prof Irene L, August 2015: Pity about the view out my room window
Miss Friederike W, August 2015: Excellent! Would definitely book again!
Mr Michael A, August 2015:
Mrs Samina Y, August 2015: Wonderful experience, especially enjoying breakfast in the dining hall.
Dr Michael P, August 2015: Quite pleased overall, particularly with the porters' professionalism and helpfulness. This particular room was also in a fairly new building in college (ROQ west building), and with a decent ensuite. Including breakfast and considering the standard of the room, this was a fair price.
Mrs Jette Søgren N, July 2015: A unique experience instead of just staying in a hotel.
Prof Ketty T, July 2015: I cannot think of a better place to stay if you have to stay in Oxford for business. it you're looking for a mystic experience, look to one of those hotels that boast of time portals to the past. And spend the money for the distinct pleasure. If you're looking for a place that will meet your needs so that you might concentrate on your project, this is it. I could go into what you won't find, but the fact is, you'll find everything: bed, linen, a ridiculously rich breakfast every morning, shower, and, of course, a large desk. I will say this, "sitting at the high table was a real eye-opener." You'll know what I mean when you get there.
Mr Pragyat S, July 2015: Request a hair dryer in the room. Overall experience was great.
Dr ELIZABETH S, July 2015: Everything was perfect - porters were charming and helpful - the campus was lovely and it was a real treat to stay here!!
I will book here again, next year!!
Mr Robert E, July 2015: I did not have breakfast, but there is not an option to acknowledge that. The Porters were very helpful.
Miss PATRICIA ISABEL GALLARDO D, July 2015: Splendid rooms for university accommodations!
To get on the wifi connection was epic, however - wasn't sure what I was installing or allowing Oxford to have access to , having to redo my settings - but I have never gone through so much rigour. Once in, the wifi connection was seamless.
Summer months and heat are not necessarily words to describe Oxford - but being able to open the windows up more widely would have brought greater comfort especially if students have to work in their rooms during the day.
Mrs Alice W, July 2015: We had a wonderful time. The driver that you got to take us to Henley was a great addition to our trip. Alice Williams
Dr Krithi K, July 2015: Breakfast was very poor. Same things served everyday.
Prof John L, July 2015: I had a wonderful stay. The room was austere but adequate, I had wonderful study space. All the people I interacted with were pleasant and helpful. And then the cost was very reasonable.
I could not have possibly expected more.
Mrs Elizabeth P, July 2015: Great stay, fabulous room
Mrs Fiona M, June 2015: Very pleasant stay - thank you
Mrs Anushka C, June 2015: Found web booking service excellent, porter service excellent and breakfast really very good. Room and shared bath facilities were clean and fine. May be useful to have extra blankets available in room and door to Park 14 was hard to lock. When the Gaudy notification came out, would have been better to show link to book accommodation there as was not clear Somervilke were offering accommodation.
Mr matt J, June 2015: Great stay made easy
Dr Ghazzal D, June 2015: I didn't have breakfast but there was no "not applicable" option. The mattress was in a bad state (too many springs popping out besides being completely worn out), but over all for the value--excellent service!
Dr Mary C, June 2015: We can't comment on the breakfast because we missed it, but the tea and coffee making facilities were good. The service was superb and we thought the room was excellent value for money. Our only criticism would be that the mattress was not as comfy as we would like but it was ok.
Miss beki M, June 2015: very clean room and bathroom. Porter was lovely!
Mrs Suzanne M, June 2015: Breakfast wasn't included, so I can't comment on that (you should add a 'N/A' column to this feedback table). The room and shared bathroom facilities were basic, hence 'average' rating but exactly as expected and perfectly comfortable. Quite a lot of noise from other guests going back and forth along the corridor late at night. Location, and value for money, very good.
Mrs Tessa A, June 2015: Porters exceptionally helpful
Mr MiCHAEL H, June 2015: excellent; loved the terrace bar (so cheap!); troom clean and bathroom very good too. Porter's Lodge outstanding customer service
Dr Elizabeth K, June 2015: Breakfast wasn't available for my visit so I cannot rate it - there is no 'not applicable' option. I really enjoyed the visit!
Mr Paul A, June 2015: Thanks. This is a very useful service to get a room in Oxford at a reasonable rate. Much better than staying at the Travelodge!
Miss Allison L, June 2015: The room, the grounds and indeed every nook and cranny of every building is spotless!! Unbelievably clean without any obvious intrusion to achieve same. The porters are all very friendly and always helpful. It is beautiful, very peaceful, geraniums nodding purple heads, birdsong both morning and evening. The breakfasts are delicious, different every day except always really good! Also, Somerville is only a 10 minute walk away from Oxford centre and the Ashmolean. All in all, a perfect place to stay!!!!!
Mrs Anne M, June 2015: Porters were excellent; very welcoming and helpful
Dr Julie D, June 2015: Friendly, unobtrusive
Mr Hedd L, May 2015: Pleasant and helpful staff. Clean room. Basic but very good value
Prof Yoko O, May 2015: Thank you
Miss Katie M, May 2015: Enjoyed my stay, great location, online booking system is a little clunky. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, room was very nice (and good value for money) Shared bathroom facilities were very clean and easy to find. Building is a little noisey but that is the only downside really!
Mr Nicholas W, May 2015: Friendly reception
Mr Richard S, May 2015: always perfect
Mr Muhammad A, May 2015: It was an excellent experience. I'll recommend.
Fr. Anja T, May 2015: It was a simple and quite room, with chared bathroom and both were clean. The porters are very friendly and helpful.
The location is good you can easy walk to the city center.
Mr tom S, May 2015: had a meeting with internet institte so very helpful location. staff very helpful. ground staff helped me find room which was great, porters helpful, though no one seemed to know where somerville was playing st annes in rugby the next day or advised me (though i should have known) that may day was about to happen as I would have definitely stayed another 2 nights - still Porters are not tourist guides I understand! didn't have breakfast so no rating...
Dr Ozlem D, April 2015: It was great!
Miss Raechelle G, April 2015: The check-in and booking processes were simple. The porter staff members were helpful. The room itself was very small and shabby, and the shared bathroom on my floor had only a bath (no shower). The room was fairly inexpensive for the area, however, and so I suppose the experience was good overall, considering the cost.
Ms Siobhan W, April 2015: excellent in every way
Mrs Gwendoline B, April 2015: Very pleased indeed. Will no doubt use University Rooms again. Thank you.
Mr David O, April 2015: Loved it here. This is a great way to be in oxford. Reasonably priced, easy walk to everything, friendly staff, fresh, clean and quite large room. We'll stay here again.
Mrs joanna I, April 2015: Very friendly personnel. Wifi guidance could be improved, and breakfast could contain somewhat more healthy items. But overall I had a very pleasant stay.
Mr Bruce G, April 2015: Excellent service and very well equipped and clean room.
Dr Kori N, April 2015: Very nice. Security staff at the desk and on the property were very helpful during the check in process.
Dr James B, March 2015: I couldn't figure out (and didn't find a good time to ask) if there were blinds for the small side windows in the room. It would have been nice to close them, especially as I was with you the last week before the clocks changed (for sunrise was rather early). Small gripe though: otherwise, lovely rooms.
Mr Shoaib S, March 2015: I would book again!
Prof Naomi C, March 2015: The room was very pleasant and confortable and the bathroom was very clean. Connecting to the Wi-ifi was very complicated. The people at the porters lodge were exteremly helpful, without their help it woud not have been such a pleaseant experience. I did not book online (i did it on the phone) and did not have breakfast
Dr Claire O, March 2015: Friendly and helpful staff. Basic 'student type' room but very clean and comfortable. Room set into the eves which gave it character but it also meant that the shared bathroom did not have a shower which was a bit disappointing. Did not have breakfast but could of by paying £7.50 cash which is reasonable.
Mrs Anne S, March 2015: Really enjoyed our night in Somerville. Very nice man greeted us. Bath supberb. Room basic but comfy. Tea facilities.
Prof Yoko O, March 2015: People gave me assistance in their busy schedule.
Ms Isabel L, February 2015: Really beautiful and welcoming room. The sheets and towels were pristine and it was very warm too! The bathrooms, although shared, were huge and I never saw anyone else using them. Overall, fantastic value for money and very central location. Will definitely recommend and stay again myself!
Mr Richard D, February 2015: A smart and professional booking service, and a pleasant night in a beautiful college.
Mr Simon K, February 2015: It was a fantastic experience to stay overnight in one of Oxford's newer Colleges and sample life as a student. My room in Somerville College was warm, clean and reasonably~priced with complimentary fast Wi~Fi as an added bonus! The College Porters at the gatehouse could not have been more friendly and helpful.
Mr George L, January 2015: No breakfast available at weekends (see above) which I was made aware of at booking. A very warm and friendly welcome at the college.
Mr Simon R, January 2015: a great stay - excellent customer service
Mr Sergio G, January 2015: Excellent value for the money
Mr geoffrey B, January 2015: I was staying in Student Halls for its convenience to the college and my meetings. Everything was very easy and went smoothly. I did have to share a bathroom and a student hall is slightly noisy, but the convenience outweighed all of that. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I did not eat breakfast but it was available in the student restaurant every day.
Mr James C, December 2014: As always, friendly and helpful team at the Lodge, interesting and slightly quirky accommodation.........but with the WOW factor of joining a snippet college life and the exceptional buildings for a night or two.
Mrs Susan O, December 2014: This was my second stay - rooms are basic, clean and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Tea/coffee tray in room which is very handy at the end of a long day. The college is a brisk 10 minute walk from central area. If you want beyond basic then this is not for you - but I would happily stay again when in Oxford as it's a lovely site to soak up the atmosphere of Oxford college life.
Prof Yoko O, December 2014: I am grateful for people's kind help.
Mr Laurence K, December 2014: The room was rather cold overnight, and the shared bathroom was busy.
Breakfast wasn't included, so I mark that as average.
The lodge staff were friendly and helpful though.
Ms susan R, November 2014: Sommerville is easy to get to. I loved it because you live the dream of being an undergraduate. Would not have swapped it for a boring hotel. Darbishire is 1930s and a little gem of a quad round the porter's lodge. The bed and bathroom was quite basic. Don't come here if you want bling!
Mr Stephen F, November 2014: I didn't have breakfast so that line didn't apply but . . . I was impressed by the ease of the on-line check-in, the welcome provided by the porter and the cleanliness and comfort of the room. Many thanks!
Mr Giles G, November 2014: Thank you!
Miss Katarzyna N, November 2014: Excellent stayat Somerville, good service and tidy room of a good size. Highly recommend.
Ms Jo L, November 2014: Breakfast wasn't included (though was offered for an extra charge - but I didn't have it). The room was quiet and comfortable and the porters were great. As the facilities are shared I would make a request for larger towels to make it possible to travel back to your room without having to get dressed in the bathroom!
Dr Elizabeth A, November 2014: Room warm spotlessly clean and Somerville is a beautiful college and a central location for city centre and bohemian Jericho
Will definitely go again
Dr Ohad K, November 2014: I've enjoyed the experience thoroughly, highly recommend it, and will try to book with Somerville again next time I'm in Oxford.
Prof Yoko O, November 2014: I am very grateful to people's help.
Prof Yoko O, November 2014: I appreciate people's help.
Mrs Deborah W, November 2014: Good basic student accomodation and although bed was a bit lumpy it met my needs. I had breakfast at a fab cafe just down the road so can't comment on that. For the price and location I was happy.
Ms mel W, November 2014: The staff at the Porters Lodge were very welcoming and helpful.
I didn't have breakfast with you so don't count the average score above.
You perhaps need a box for didn't have breakfast?
Only issue was with WiFi. It seemed to take ages to connect. It was easier to connect via my phone than it was via my tablet. I did get it working though... eventually.
Mrs Eleanor J, November 2014: Centrally located . Quiet and very friendly greeting staff
Mr Paul J, October 2014: Very easy and friendly welcome
Mrs Kerry B, October 2014: Porter Danny extremely helpful. Even with building site next door, noise was not intrusive . . . and the view to the old observatory was lovely! Grounds were beautiful and we found it an interesting experience staying in college as it brough back memories of our time at university. Would choose university accommodation again.
Mr Alan H, October 2014: The guest we booked the room for says that she was outstandingly satisfied with the room and factilities
Mr Guy D, September 2014: Thank you for a wonderful stay. A great location and excellent value.
Mr William W, September 2014: very nice stay, thanks so much!
Mrs GUISTINA R, September 2014: A comfortable, well equipped and quiet room and everyone was very friendly and helpful.
Dr Rae T, September 2014: Thank you for a great stay at Somerville College. It was clean, quiet and the breakfasts were of a high standard. My minor concern was the slow internet.
Mr Bill C, September 2014: Porter staff very friendly and helpful.
Mrs Hazel T, September 2014: Very helpful staff. Nothing too much trouble. A joy to stay there.
Mr Rodrigo O, September 2014: Very pleasant stay
Ms Roberta B, September 2014: fantastic proximity to town centre. Best deal in Oxford for punting, there was a problem organizing the punting experience and hopefully the system is more transparent now. Beautiful campus
Mrs Annabel M, September 2014: Staff at Porters Lodge were so helpful and friendly, it made all the difference, especially as I was recovering from illness and feeling a bit fragile when we first arrived.
Ms Rebecca M, September 2014: The room was of a very high quality and the service received upon check-in was outstanding and very friendly!
Mr Bo M, August 2014: Didn't actually have the breakfast but the fact it was there at all is nice. Really enjoyed staying at the college!
Mr Paul S, August 2014: Staff were excellent; helpful, friendly and obliging. We arrived earlier than planned, very tired from a transatlantic flight, and they let us in to the room before the stated time. They were also very helpful in giving advice for our visit.
Mr Josh K, August 2014: Absolutely perfect for my needs.
Mrs P A C, August 2014: The room was spacious, and fairly quiet, with a lovely view. The College is very conveniently located. The staff were warmly welcoming, helpful and approachable. A pity that the mattress was so hard, and it was not all that easy sharing toilet and bathroom facilities - (which were also dated, and somewhat uncomfortable). Otherwise a most enjoyable stay.
Mr Roger B, July 2014: We very much appreciated the porters' help and found the room very clean and comfortable.
Ms Amanda M, July 2014: Lovely accomodation - rooms very hot and little ventilation but overall a lovely palce to stay.
Mr Jeroen M, July 2014: Good but basic rooms
Prof Yoko O, July 2014: Very good experience.
Dr Karen S, July 2014: The Oxford University Rooms initiative is excellent. This is the third Oxford College I have stayed at and one cannot better the service and facilities in terms of value for money and a unique experience in heritage accommodation. Please thank the Porters at the Somerville Porters' Lodge for their welcome and help with storing luggage on my day of departure.
Mrs Georgina D, July 2014: Nice spacious room. The metal bed frame wasn't as firm as I would have liked, making the bed a bit too soft, but the linen was nice and fresh, and I enjoyed the stay. Lovely view of the garden from the window.
Miss Margaret M, July 2014: I found my stay in Somerville College restful and would have no hesitation in staying there again or recommending it to friends.
Dr Rosie W, July 2014: The room is basic but nicely done, staff are friendly and helpful, breakfast generous and delicious. Easy walking distance of town. This is great value for money for Oxford....
Mr John H, June 2014: Great, thanks!
Only criticism was that the window had no stay.
Dr Agnes G, June 2014: All was perfect: location, staff, charming of the place. If I come back to Oxford, I will try to go to Somerville again. I had no opportunity to have breakfast there, but I imagine it's good as well.
Miss Claire D, June 2014: I had a lovely stay at Somerville College. The accommodation was great- towels and tea making facilities in room with soaps and shower gels, and all the porters were really friendly. I was visiting for an interview, and one of them even showed me where my interview was taking place (very helpful). The next day they were kind enough to give me a map and recommendations where to visit in the city. Had a great time, thank you !
Miss Rebecca N, June 2014: The room was perfect and wasn't too small, and the people at the reception were lovely. I really enjoyed my time there and will definitely try staying here again the next time I come to Oxford.
Mr Jonathan F, June 2014: Room quite small but had everything I needed for a one night stay. It was clean, warm and comfortable.
I did not require breakfast and so have not given it a mark.
Mrs Frances M, May 2014: Made to feel very welcome, porters most helpful they added much to overall experience and should be valued.
Mrs Rama S, May 2014: Every thing was good. The people there were nice and helpful. The room, the bedding were very clean. I liked the place and will definitely book it again in the future. One comment about the bathroom. It was clean and the hot water was available, but there was no shower, only bath.
Mr Eoin O, May 2014: No breakfast included but price was great. Real sense of staying in 'old Oxford' - recommended for anyone who doesn't mind sharing a toilet and getting breakfasr elsewhere.
Mr Fengzai T, May 2014: The reception staff are very helpful.
Mrs Alison G, April 2014: Peaceful nights sleep.
Rooms very clean and warm
Mrs Rhona M, April 2014: I was very pleased with everything & everyone was very pleasant. I would recommend you anytime. Thanks
Ms Alison R, December 2013: I had a problem with a door handle, and it was fixed very quickly. Very good service
Dr Zoe M, September 2013: All staff were very friendly and polite. I would happily stay here again.
Dr Denise F, September 2013: Absolutely great and in a brand new dorm!
Mrs elizabeth anne C, September 2013: It was a great experience to stay in a university college whilst in Oxford. Being in the college really enhanced it all. The porter Dave couldn't do enough for us.
Mr David O, September 2013: Helpful staff. attractive college and a great location for me. I expect to try and book again. thanks
Miss Samantha K, September 2013: It was much appreciated to have a disability room. Many thanks - we had an excellent stay and it was lovely to come back to Somerville for the weekend.
Mr Richard S, September 2013: the matress could have been better. everything else was great.
Mr David L, September 2013: This is always a great experience - please keep making rooms available. I missed breakfast, to meet with relatives downtown, but was really quite disappointed not to see the breakfast room.
Dr Katharine F, August 2013: College staff really helpful - made a good experience an excellent one!
Miss RUTH D, August 2013: A lovely experience. We very much enjoyed staying in College and eating breakfast at the Top Table. The booking process was simple and everyone we met during our stay couldn't have been more polite and helpful. The new block was clean and comfortable. My only tiny complaint was that I couldn't connect my ipad to your wi-fi at all. I know I could have sought assistance, but it hardly seemed worth the effort for such a short stay when I only wanted to check my emails - which I did in a local coffee shop. However, that was the only minor gripe - everything else was terrific!
Ms Katharine M, August 2013: We had a pleasant stay. Some additional in room information about how to open the side windows and ventilation louvers would be helpful. We figured it out within the day but some folks at breakfast said it took them several days...:)
Ms Angelika D, July 2013: great experience, definitely recommend this. When in Oxford, I will come back to Somerville
Ms Catherine B, June 2013: My stay was made especially pleasant by the helpful porters at Somerville.
It was good to have a kettle and enough materials for tea-making in the room, everything was clean and comfortable.
Ms Kirsty T, April 2013: Everyone in the group enjoyed their stay and would be happy to come again. Thank you.
Ms Rebecca J, April 2013: Daniel, the porter, was absolutely brilliant. Funny, helpful, really chatty and lovely. Thank you! The three fire alarms and the dodgy, rocking, wall socket were minor blips!
Prof Ron G, March 2013: Very satisfactory overall - the room was excellent. I had a moment of panic when an information sheet I was given said breakfast would not be provided. Fortunately this turned out to be untrue!
Ms Rosemary M, December 2012: Dave the porter was excellent in his manner and he went out of his way to make us comfortable. Please pass on our thanks.
Mr stephen B, October 2012: Thanks! It was super easy and very efficient. Was impressed.
Mrs Emma C, October 2012: What luxury to stay in college and have an ensuite!
Mrs Maureen B, September 2012: Loved staying in Somerville, it was quiet and very central. We were able to see almost everything on foot and felt it provided us with a real Oxford experience.
Mrs Christine C, August 2012: Although the breakfast was good and well cooked, by the time we had eaten our cereal, the egg, bacon etc was cold. It would be advantageous to be able to help oneself to cereal and then to return for the cooked items.
Otherwise our stay was very enjoyable and the porters were all cheerful and helpful.
Dr Katharine F, August 2012: Lodge staff were particularly helpful, in helping me master some of the technology, including wireless connection. Room was very clean, with daily sheet and towel changes, and the cleaning staff were friendly and unobtrusive. Despite the construction noise, I'd return very happily.
Other Walter K, August 2012: Overall pleasant -- room was very small -- location was perfect.
Mr David C, August 2012: Brilliant Porters. Really friendly and helpful. Shame we couldn't park in the college.
Mr Michael R, August 2012: Porters were outstanding---friendly, welcoming, reassuring. The guys there on Friday night and Sunday morning should get a raise! I loved it.
My only issue was that the time for breakfast was too short---I missed both mornings.
Ms Yuk Kwan C, July 2012: The room is very clean and modern, it's much much better than my expectation, the staff there is very helpful, I did enjoy staying in East building of Somerville. It would be better if Hairdryer is provided.
Prof Margaret H, July 2012: Really helpful reception - very positive impression of the college. After a sticky start with the Wifi link, IT came to the rescue in magnificent fashion so very many thanks for all the help and support on that front as well
Dr Melissa C, July 2012: Somerville College is located very nicely just north of the bustling city center and is very convenient to the main bus station. It is an ideal location, whether you are in Oxford for work or pleasure. The porters, cleaning and breakfast staff were all very friendly and helpful. The room was kept very clean, the wifi worked very well, and breakfast was more than ample. My stay at Somerville College was a great experience. I would stay there again.
Mrs CLARE W, July 2012: It was nice to stay in my old college again after almost 30 years. Even the crokery hadn't changed and my room was certainly better than the one I had as an undergraduate! It was a pity about the buiding site next door but these things do happen. I would go back again.
Mrs Martina H, July 2012: It was a nice experience to stay at Sommerville College as a guest. Very friendly staff and a wonderful atmosphere.
Dr Ayano T, June 2012: Good value for money. the staff was very friendly and helpful!
Mrs Maureen S, June 2012: I have given an excellent mark for the breakfast because there was such variety and plenty of fresh fruit but the cooked breakfast could be hotter. The room was delightful with no noise from adjacent rooms because the building is old and substantial but there should be somewhere to hang a wet towel as I shared a bathroom and had to bring it back to my room after a shower. The shower was fantastic - like being under a warm Niagara.
Miss Melissa M, June 2012: Lovely university residency, the people was nice, the room was clean and well located. Perfect for a few days and to enjoy the Oxford experience by sleeping in a college.
Dr Ashley U, June 2012: I found it very difficult to connect to the internet. However, having Wifi included is a great benefit.
Generally a very positive experience - all staff were very friendly.
Ms Anna W, June 2012: Very pleasant room in a lovely setting
Mr Howard A, June 2012: there is no breakfast and so my rating as no n/a is available. very convenient location and nicer than i expected. a good experience.
Mr Timothy M, June 2012: Excellent. Room was of standard of student accommodations, so no luxury nor ensuite, but SPARKLING clean, a rarity in affordable UK accommodation. College grounds were beautiful, as was Oxford location. VERY safe, multiple security passpoints/safeguards. Staff was helpful and friendly. Best value for UK accommodations you will find.
Mr Stephen J, June 2012: I found the room comfortable and clean, the service friendly and efficient, and the buildings and quad delightful. Logging on to the wi-fi was more complicated than in most places, but in general I had a very pleasant stay. Thank you very much. NB: I have not marked the breakfast, as none was served (which was made clear when I booked, and is fine at the price).
Dr Andrew M, June 2012: The facilities are basic but perfectly comfortable and extremely convenient for the centre. The IT support was excellent. Breakfast is not provided.
Ms Cynthia C, June 2012: Great location. Room and bathroom were clean. Service was ok in terms of cleaning the room but the tea and coffee tray was not always replenished. Shared bathroom was ok. Excellent value for money all in all.
Dr Deborah J, May 2012: No complaints - knew there was no breakfast and no parking, so in the circumstances I found it all fine. The porter was friendly and helpful, which made the whole experience pleasant.
Mrs Bonnie R, March 2012: We absolutely loved our stay at Somerville College. Full of atmosphere, it also had all the modern conveniences you appreciate when travelling. It would have been nice if they'd served breakfast, but there are cafes nearby so it wasn't too inconvenient.
Ms Anke Maria M, March 2012: very friendly staff and excellent service!! A cosy, comfortable place!
Mr Christopher W, March 2012: Breakfast was not included so not applicable above. Lodge staff were very friendly and helpful
Dr Eilon P, March 2012: Small but very tidy room. Clean bathroom just outside the room. No breakfast for guests in Sommerville college, but you can buy it in a variety of shops adjacent to the college. The doormen were very kind. Overall, a very good experience.

Mr Prashant J, February 2012: Good experience, will try again.
Ms Lucia W, February 2012: The college staff were extremely friendly. The room was very neat and clean. I was very happy with my stay.
Miss Chantelle M, February 2012: The room was room-only so I cannot comment on the standard of breakfast. But I had a lovely stay and thought that the place was very beautiful.
Mr Fraser D, February 2012: Very nice room, in a very convenient location for visiting the city/university.
Dr Alfonso G, February 2012: Great location at a few minutes from the city's center, the shared bathroom is clean and comfortable, never occupied. The College represents a worth experience for everyone who has to spend a few days in Oxford in a real academic residency. The reception personnel is friendly and will provide you with any help or information. Good wi fi service in room. The rooms are very comfortable and warm, with an enjoyable view on the internal court of the college. I strongly recommend this accommodation for your holiday or work-travel.

Dr Ingrid E, January 2012: Can't wait to return!
Dr Ingrid E, January 2012: Would love a reading or desk lamp of some kind. Otherwise, fabulous!
Ms Elizabeth M, January 2012: The room was delightful . I had not realised it was not en suite but that might have been an oversight on my part-it was a bit of a trek to the bathroom. A shower would have felt easier in shared facilities but that is a personal preference. The College had provided excellence in terms of what was possible.I would happily stay there again.
Dr Miguel C, December 2011: Excellent service and Accomodation. Everyone is very friendly.
Very near to the center of oxford and most of the colleges.
Ideal for someone attending a conference or seminar at Oxford
