History

St George's College, founded in 1931, is the oldest residential college at The University of Western Australia. Its original buildings and chapel, in the Victorian Gothic Revival style, represent one of the most attractive and important precincts of historical buildings in Western Australia.  The College also has heritage-listed gardens that frame its buildings. The College is an Anglican foundation that was established pursuant to a major bequest by Sir Winthrop Hackett, first Chancellor of The University of Western Australia, who died in 1916. 

Food & beverage

The College has a fully operational kitchen and Dining Hall.  Breakfast is included in the room rate.  Lunch and dinner availability is determined solely by the occupancy of the College at the time.  Guests can check with Reception during their stay if these options are available to them. 

Coffee and Tea making facilities are available as well as microwaves and snack vending machines.

The College is located close to restaurants and cafes.

Grounds & Gardens

The College gardens which includes a very extensive rose garden are listed by the National Trust of Australia (WA).  The Illawarra Flame Tree (or Kurrajong), at the left of the driveway entrance, produces its scarlet bell flowers in late spring.  There are three notable oak trees within the grounds, a large Quadrangle which reflects the traditional monastic quadrangles with a centre pond.

Other facilities

Internet connection capabilities are available at an additional charge through the company BigAir.  You will need to contact Reception on arrival to organise connection.  The rates start at A$15.00 per week.

The College boasts a Junior Common Room (JCR) and Rogerson Cafe which are equipped with newspapers and magazines, guest computers and WIFI.

Luggage can be stored at the College for guests prior to check in and after check out. 

Sporting facilities such as tennis courts, gymnasium and swimming pools are available at the University of Western Australia at a nominal charge.

The College has a number of laundries located through the grounds.  Washing powder can be purchased from the Reception.
