Todo muy bien, lo único fue que no había jabón ni gel de ducha y no se advertía ese extremo.

Residencia Micampus, Bilbao

Bilbao Visitor information

Bilbao has lots to attract tourists as is one of the most visited cities in Northern Spain. One of the most famous attractions is the incredible Guggenheim Museum Bilbao even if its just to see its magnificent architecture and take a picture next to the Guggenheim Dog statue that is covered in beautiful flowers, those wanting to go inside can purchase tickets and see the artefacts, explore the exhibitions, and take part in activities, and much more!!

The Basilica of Begoña is an incredible Church not to be missed! It is situated on top of a hill with stunning views, and you can either climb the hill or get in an elevator that takes you to the top.

As like many big cities Bilbao is divided by a river (The Nervion), there are many bridges, but the Suspension bridge is something very unique that is worth adding to your bucket list. You can also get on a boat to cross the river for a small fee.

For those wanting to venture out of town we recommend visiting Gaztelugatxe, an amazing picturesque islet on the coast of Biscay belonging to the municipality of Bermeo just a 45-minute drive from Bilbao. This islet became very popular for tourists after it was used as the main location of “Dragonstone” in the popular TV show Games of Thrones.

Like most Spanish towns the gastronomy is something you can not miss out on, Pintxos are unique to northern Spain and can usually be eaten in bars or taverns as a small snack while hanging out with friends or family.

Travel

Traveling to and around Bilbao is very comfortable, there is an airport that has flights from London, a port that has connecting ferries from Portsmouth and Plymouth.

A metro system that runs the full length of Bilbao and also buses and taxis to other areas, which can all be accessed from the Bilbao Intermodal station.

Those wanting to visit more of the outskirts and venture round the coast you might look at hiring a car but be aware that parking is not always easy to find in the center.

History of Bilbao

Bilbao is a city in the North of Spain, and the largest in the Basque Country. It is one of the few areas that was not conquered by the Napoleon Invasion and the Carlist Wars of the 1800s. It survived to tell the tale and went on to become the seat of the Basque autonomous government in the Spanish Civil War in 1936, before being besieged by the Nationalist army, who destroyed all the city's bridges in May 1937.

In 1978 Bilbao of the Basque Country was granted the status of nationality within Spain, to date they still speak their native language Euskara alongside castellano the national language of Spain.

In 1892 the Bilbao City Hall was built on the former site of a convent with its baroque style architecture and its incredibly richly decorated Arab Hall in the Neo-Mudéjar Style.
