Overview

Wycliffe Hall is a theological college and permanent private hall of the University of Oxford, located next to the University Parks and a short walk from the centre of Oxford, the Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers Museums.

Accommodation is available in ensuite bedrooms or single, twin or family standard rooms sharing unisex bathroom facilities. All rooms are provided with bed linen and towels.

There are no lifts in the building, and access to the reception is via steps.

History

Wycliffe Hall was founded in 1877 as a place to train evangelical clergy in the Church of England, and has since then expanded to take any student of theology. It started in the main part of the current building (54 Banbury Road), expanding to 52 Banbury Road, which was originally a convent, in 1883. The Chapel was added to connect the two houses in 1896 and is noted for its architecture and interior panelling. Other rooms have been added over time, including a dining room (now lecture room) in the style of a chapel in 1910.

Food & beverage

Breakfast is served in the hall and is included in the B&B overnight rate (unless specifically mentioned otherwise). A Continental breakfast is served most mornings, including a selection of cereals, toast, yoghurt, cold meat, cheese, pastries, fruit juice and hot drinks. On Fridays, a cooked breakfast is served instead of a Continental breakfast. Please advise at the time of booking if you have any special dietary requirements.

During the term, breakfast is served at:

7:15 - 8:45am Monday to Friday
8:30 - 10:00am Saturday to Sunday

In vacations, breakfast is served at:

7:30 - 9:00am Monday to Friday
8:30 - 10:00am Saturday to Sunday

Grounds & Gardens

Wycliffe Hall has a private garden, complete with garden furniture in the summer months. There is a children's play area, which guests with small children are welcome to use.

The University Parks are a short stroll from Wycliffe Hall, with the North entrance located just across the road from the Hall.

Other facilities

Parking: Limited parking is available on-site for guests staying in Hall accommodation and space can be reserved on booking.

Children: Children and babies are welcome to stay at Wycliffe Hall with their parents, but unfortunately the Hall is unable to provide travel cots or any beds other than those already available in the room booked. If you are intending to stay with a baby and bring a travel cot with you, please note it in your booking to ensure a room large enough for it is allocated to you.

Internet acces: Free wifi is available for all guests staying in Wycliffe Hall.

Wycliffe Hall is a characterful Victorian building, a theological college in an excellent quiet location near the University Parks, about 10 minutes walk from the historic centre of the city. There are only a few guest rooms; the standard single room was basic student-style accommodation but quite comfortable and felt secure (easy improvements would be an extra pillow, spare blanket and bedside lamp). Breakfast is self self service with nice croissants and porridge when I was there.

Very good value for money. Excellent service from staff. So helpful to have free parking on site and breakfast. Oddly, my room was without electrical power later in the evening of my stay (although the mains lights were working), although it was back in the morning.

A kind welcome, clean and comfortable room, and a variety of choices at breakfast. Overall, great value for money in this beautiful city and a pleasant walk to and from the town centre (although there are plenty of buses). Would recommend! Thank you 😊

The bus station and railway station are both located about 20 minutes walk from Wycliffe Hall. Taxis are available at both; the journey should take 5-10 minutes (depending on traffic) and cost under £10.
