The Rifle Volunteer is set in the County of Hertfordshire in the small town of Ware. The history of this Public House and Bed & Breakfast dates from around 1841 when it was owned by a Ware maltster. By 1850 it was the named The Union Jack until at least 1864. It then became The Rifle Volunteer after the brave men and women who picked there Rifles and formed a citizen army of part timers and created a popular movement in the British Empire in 1859.
