Visión general

There is now, for the first time in living memory, an opportunity for the discerning angler to fish the middle stretch of this lovely river.   The Upper Yealm Fishery enables an angler to enjoy a peaceful day in an area of great natural beauty with occasional glimpses of Otters and Kingfishers.

Rods are asked to show due consideration to others who use the fishery and farmland and to follow the Country Code.

The Upper Yealm Fishery consists of nearly a mile of fishing on both banks of the river.   The fishery is divided into two beats with a maximum of two rods on any given day.   Each beat has a number of well-defined pools and runs.

There is a gap of two hundred yards between the water of the two beats.   This stretch does not belong to the fishery and it is not available to rods fishing on season or day tickets issued by the Association.

Access to the Lower Beat is via the gates at the designated parking area.   Access to the Upper Beat is via the gate on the east bank of the river above Fardel Moor Bridge or by the stile on the east bank below Woodburn Farm Bridge.

In the interests of good neighbourliness, no other access points are to be used by rods fishing on the Upper Yealm Fishery.

The preferred method of fishing for Brown Trout is upstream dry fly or nymph.   Fly-fishing is to be regarded as the normal method of fishing for Sea Trout or Salmon with spinning as an acceptable alternative when the river is high and coloured.   Fishing with prawns or worms is not permitted on the fishery.
