Near the memorable urban areas of Darlington, Durham and York, various manors, exhibition halls, dazzling wide open and the coast.

Each of the 34 bedrooms and numerous reception rooms has their own particular character, many with individually designed upholstery. Choose from Standard, Executive rooms or one of the character suite rooms such as the King James Suite which features a tented double Whirlpool spa bath, a dramatic 16th-century ceiling, lounge area and a secret doorway leading to a circular tower which hosts a superb King-sized four-poster bed.

Historia

Walworth Castle is a 16th-century mansion house, built in the style of a medieval castle. It is a Grade 1 listed building. It was completed around 1600, probably by Thomas Holt for Thomas Jenison. It stands on the site of a former manor house or castle built in the 12th century by the Hansard family. The estate passed through the hands of the Ayscoughs and Aylmers besides the Hansards and Jenisons, and became a prisoner-of-war camp during World War II and then a girls' boarding school after the war. It has been a hotel since 1981.

One famous visitor to the castle was King James, who stayed at Walworth Castle on April 14th 1603, when he was travelling from Scotland to London for his coronation.
