The proprietors are local people and have been at The Lion Hotel for over 25 years, but the pub was built in Victorian times. The owners have retained some of the features and decor, giving the building a distinct period feel. Guests staying at The Lion Hotel can feel as though they have stepped back into the late 19th century whilst enjoying all the comforts of modern living. The rooms are warm and cozy and the front bedrooms have fantastic views over the stunning Welsh countryside and the nearby river Ithon.

However, it is also a superb base for those wishing to explore Mid Wales, with beauty spots like the Elan Valley nearby, as well as several fantastic walks, including the famous Glyndwr's Way and Offa's Dyke. The pub is also conveniently located for those visiting the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show, which is held annually in Builth Wells. It is also within easy reach of the market towns of Llandrindod Wells, Newtown, Rhayader, Presteigne and Knighton.
