Elegant Georgian houses and coaching inns record Wincanton's importance as a staging post on the main London to Plymouth road. In the 1600s the town provided stabling for nearly 300 horses. The oldest part of The Nog Inn dates from the 1600's, whilst the frontage is that of the Georgian era.
