A former Coaching House situated in the heart of historic Penryn, 'The Thirsty Scholar' is part of a long history that has seen a brewery or an ale house on this site for more than 600 years and it enjoys an atmosphere that cannot be re-created.
Our freshly decorated en-suite bed and breakfast rooms are warm and welcoming, with free wi-fi, TV, tea/coffee making facilities and hair dryers.
Our B&B Guests also enjoy the use of a private terrace in the garden with views to the river, for lunch and evening meals. Private, off road parking close to Tremough Campus is available for our guests.
The ambiance is informal but welcoming, combining period features such as slate floors, natural timber and an open fire with discreet lighting and a crisp, clean bar area.
Our large, sheltered garden has a spacious covered area and enjoys views of the river towards Falmouth and the sea. The quaint and picturesque single track railway line that connects Penryn with Truro and Falmouth is just a five minute walk away.
We serve selected local real ales and ciders and a range of carefully chosen wines from £10 per bottle.
Our welcome attracts locals, University Students and visitors from around the region, in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. We welcome well behaved, clean pets and children and ask only that they are respectful to our staff and to other patrons.
We serve food every day, with lunch between 12 and 3 and evening meals from 6.30 to 9.30.
Our menu of home cooked food changes daily with light bites from £2.95 and main courses from £5.95.
