Overview

The safety of Graduate House Carlton's students and guests are the main priority of the University. Graduate House offers comfortable and reasonably priced accommodation in a sophisticated and historical area of Melbourne. Situated moments from the city centre, Carlton is a bustling area with a vibrant social and restaurant scene on the world-famous Lygon Street.

The rooms and apartments are located across three wings. The older style William Berry Wing of adjoining terrace houses has single and double rooms (shared bathrooms) and one apartment. The Main Building has single and double rooms with ensuites, and the newest Stella Langford Wing has medium and large self-contained apartments.


Check in: 14:00 (2:00pm) - 19:00 (7:00pm) (arrivals may be allowed outside this window if your travel plans can't be adjusted however this is subject to availability)

History

Graduate House is a membership association of graduates. It was established in 1911 by a group of founders interested in continuing, throughout their lifetimes, the feel of being at university by having forums for discussion and learning.

The establishment now has members all over the world who have graduated from any university, not just the University of Melbourne, in many disciplines.

Food & beverage

Breakfast and dinner are included in the price of the room. Please note that during the Festive Season from the 20th December 2017 to 7th January 2018 inclusive there are no meals or room service provided.

Basic self-catering facilities are available for those who require a little more flexibility.

All bed linen and towels are provided. For longer-term visitors, bed-linen and towels are changed weekly.

Coin-operated washing machines and dryers are available for guests to use.

A wireless internet connection is available for a charge. Cards enabling access can be purchased from the office. Daily-$7.00, Weekly-$14.00 Fortnightly-$22.00, 3 weeks-$28.00, Monthly-$30.00

Visitors have access to resident areas including a comfortably appointed lounge, a TV room, a recreation room with a table tennis table, a library, kitchen and study rooms during their stay.

Car parking facilities are available. Please mention in the Additional Information section of the booking form if you would like to reserve a space. The charge is $15.00 per day. There is also a secure bicycle shelter and luggage storage available.

You are welcome to use the facilities until your room becomes available.

Office hours: Monday to Friday 7.30am to 7.00pm

Arrivals after hours, weekends or on a Public holiday please ring the front doorbell upon arrival and the Duty Resident will assist with your check-in.

Directions: A taxi from the airport costs around $50-55. Alternatively, take the Starbus from the Airport, which departs every 30 minutes on the hour. Inform the driver you are going to Graduate House and they will drop you off at the door until 7.00pm, after 7.00pm they will drop you off at Southern Cross Station. From here, Graduate House is around 10 min. a taxi ride, or 35 min. walk. 

Nearest Airport: Melbourne-Tullamarine International Airport (21km)

Direct Bus Service – STARBUS operates between 5 am – 7 pm daily. 

Taxi – Alternatively you can jump in a taxi and depending on traffic this will take between 25-50 minutes and cost approximately between $50-$65. If you are travelling with 3 or 4 people this can be a cheaper option than paying separately for the bus.
