Surrounded by extensive gardens and the historic Duisdale Forest, Duisdale House Hotel stands on a hillside on the beautiful Isle of Skye, with panoramic views of the Sound of Sleat. This award-winning hotel boasts an excellent restaurant, conservatory and elegant lounge with high ceilings and log fire overlooking the gardens. There is also a stylish, contemporary bar which is well stocked with Malt Whiskies.

Each bedroom is unique in both décor and layout and most have captivating views over the mature gardens and forest while some have sea and mountain views. All are en-suite with elegant, contemporary décor and some have magnificent Four Poster beds. The striking modern design complements the original features of the building.

Guests may enjoy a woodland walk on the 30 acres of forest that surround Duisdale House or take a dip in the new exclusive luxurious hydro pool in the gardens. Other local activities include fishing, walking and horse riding and the Island is home to Dunvegan Castle, The Clan Donald Centre, Talisker Distillery and of course the magnificent Cuillin Mountains. There is also the unique opportunity to enjoy a sailing trip onboard the hotels luxury yacht and explore the beautiful islands nearby.

History

The Duisdale House Hotel is a former hunting lodge built in 1857 for the head of the McDonald Clan. It remained in the family and was later rented out and transformed into a hotel. Under different ownerships, the hotel flourished.

The large vegetable garden was one of the main emblems for the hotel. Rather neglected during the previous ownership, the hotel is now back to its former glory, with a contemporary design which blends in perfectly with the old surroundings.

Food & beverage

Duisdale House Hotel’s restaurant offers a table d’hôte menu offering modern Scottish cuisine using carefully-selected suppliers including many local Skye partners.

The award-winning restaurant presents the diner with choice before even seeing a menu – with choices to dine in the fine dining restaurant which sports 2 AA rosettes, in the less formal Chart Room offering an a la carte menu, the hotel's conservatory with views of the gardens to the Sound of Sleat or in the hotel's intimate fireside area.

There is an extensive wine list with something to complement every palate. The Malt Whisky selection comes highly recommended or there’s a traditional Skye Ale to enjoy in the Chart Room Bar.

Recently awarded 2 AA Rosettes for excellent food.

Grounds & Gardens

Duisdale House Hotel is surrounded by centuries-old woodlands. Paths throughout allow guests to stroll through the forest and discover the ancient fauna and flora. Relax in the well-kept gardens and enjoy the variety of flowers and plants. The herb garden and the fruit trees are the sources of many mouthwatering dishes prepared by the kitchen.

Just a two minute walk away is the shingle beach which offers a spectacular view of the Sound of Sleat and the mountains of Glenelg.

Other facilities

Go for a day's sailing on the hotel's private yacht, The trips take guests into the sea lochs, to the remotest pub in Britain, Knoydart, or over to the small Isles of Rhum, Eigg and Canna.

Internet access, either wireless or on a pc station, is available for all guests free of charge. Each bedroom has a flat screen tv, tea and coffee making facilities and room service.

Arrival information & directions

Address: Isle Ornsay, Sleat, Isle of Skye, Scottish Highlands and IslandsIV43 8QW, United Kingdom

Check In: From 2.00pm. Check Out: 10.30am.

Skye is an island, therefore the nearest motorway junction is in Glasgow, which is a four-hour drive away. However, all major roads are well kept.

Drive to Kyle of Lochalsh, cross the Skye Bridge and at the turning on the left marked A851, turn towards Armadale. Continue along the road approximately 7 miles to Duisdale and the Hotel is clearly signed on the right, just after entering the 40 miles per hour zone.

If arriving via Mallaig, on arrival at Armadale take the main road and drive along for 10 miles to Duisdale Mor and the hotel is up on the left.
