Overview

Situated in the scenic cove and tiny harbour of Portloe, the Lugger poses as a gem set within the stunning Roseland Peninsula. Enclosed by cliffs and headlands which form part of the Cornish Coastal Footpath boasting unprecedented elegance and enduring timelessness.

Designed for the most discerning of travellers, the hotel’s twenty-two bedrooms are adorned with crisp white linens and bleached Portuguese woods for a contemporary yet intimate feel, and all feature luxurious en-suite bathrooms with deep baths and deluge showers. Complement your stay with a blissful treatment in the Spa.

History

Unchanged by the passing of time, Portloe is the living reality of a Cornish fishing village. At the very water's edge, this unique 17th-century inn is reputed to have been the haunt of local smugglers for many years. Indeed, one of the hotel's very own landlords, Black Dunstan, was hanged for smuggling in the 1890s. The liquor licence was withdrawn and the inn ceased trading. After a variety of uses, which included being a boat builder's shed, the building was renovated and it reopened in 1950 with just six bedrooms.

Food & beverage

Dining at this hotel combines the finest of locally sourced seasonal ingredients and is complemented by the fine wine list to create a truly memorable and magical experience for the visitor. With 2 AA Rosettes for excellence, it will pose as the ideal spot to sample an eclectic mix of British and European cuisine.

Taking full advantage of this beautiful location, the restaurant overlooks the sea and harbour and serves classical cuisine with an emphasis on locally-sourced produce particularly shellfish, lobster and crab. Throughout the year, lunches and evening aperitifs are served to guests on the sun-drenched terraces. Packed lunches can be provided (advance notice required).
