Oxford City & Countryside Cycle Tours

Guided tour

MINIMUM 2 PERSONS REQUIRED TO BOOK ANY CYCLE TOUR!

The best way to see Oxford city is on a bicycle. The city is very compact and there are numerous cycle routes in the city and along the Thames river path. Please note that the bike tours do not visit inside colleges unless choosing to book the slightly more expensive combined walk + bike tour which is only offered on Saturdays.

Bike tour only tour options don't focus on the city centre either much, so if the preference is to see inside colleges, please book the PUBLIC combined bike + walk tour. The combined tours normally visit one or more university colleges or historic buildings but there is no guarantee that as university buildings, they may suddenly decide to close.

Currently, public tours are only offered on Saturdays and only from April to October.

Alternatively, private tours are available to book every day during similar seasons.

PUBLIC Bike tour only tour options start at either 10.45am or 2.45pm

PUBLIC COMBINED  bike + walk tour starts at 1pm and ends at approximately 5.30pm

Nearly all the bookings actually end up being private tours, so tours can be customised to your interest and are kept at small numbers.

Bike Tour only last approximately 2.5 hours to 3 hours and are guided.

The bike tour introduces many of the best sights of Oxford and introduces the university and city history plus insights into Lewis Carroll's telling of the 'Alice in Wonderland' story, as the route partially follow the route Carrol took young Alice Liddell from Christ church along the Thames river on July 4th 1862.

Bicycles will be either mountain bikes. There is a limited stick of children's bikes and the bikes in stock will only fit riders from height 4'2'' (1.3m) up to 6'3'' (1.9m).

Safety Information:

Bikes are provided for the oxford bicycle tour but any additional requirements such as for a tandem adult and child combined bicycle or infant seat, these must be hired in and arranged in advance and will cost from extra £20 upwards.

Note that it's not obligatory to wear a bike helmet in Oxford, so helmets are provided upon request.

The tour operator has public liability insurance but please note that customers must understand that they are nevertheless riding at their own risk and to follow the general safety instructions given by the guide at the start of the tour and during the tour. It is also a condition of booking a bicycle tour, that the customer must be familiar with how to ride a bicycle.

Weather in the U.K. is unpredictable and so it is advisable to dress for any type of weather. It is Oxford bicycle tours policy not to cancel bookings due to poor weather unless decided it was unsafe riding conditions, such as icy conditions. On the day of the tour, if customers request due to very poor weather, to swap the bicycle tour for a walking tour, that is acceptable too.
