Overview

Set on the pedestrianised part of historic Broad Street, The Buttery is one of Oxford’s most central accommodation providers. All 16 rooms are en-suite, clean and comfortable, some with original fireplaces.

The Buttery provides room only accommodation in a choice of Double and Twin rooms, as well as a Single room. Deluxe and Superior rooms have views overlooking Broad Street and Balliol College and Small Standard rooms look out onto Ship Street buildings. All rooms offer free WiFi access, flat screen televisions, direct dial telephones, tea/coffee making facilities, hair dryers and electric shaver points.

Our reception desk is located on the first floor and accessed up a flight of stairs. All rooms are on the first, second and third floors of our guest accommodation and due to the historic nature of this listed building we do not have an elevator. This means all our rooms are accessed by staircases and our disabled facilities are limited.

Links to public transport are easy, with the train station fifteen minutes walk or a short taxi ride away and the coach station even closer, five minutes walk at the most. Park and Ride bus stops are also only a few minutes walk from the door.
Access is gained through the red door between Oxford Campus Stores and The Oxford Campus Store, after 6pm the door is shut and access is gained via an intercom on the left hand side of the front door, our night porter ensures access is available throughout the night. Public parking facilities with payment meters are available nearby, however parking in the centre of Oxford is limited and expensive, we therefore recommend making use of the five Park and Ride sites that surround the city.

Large room with terrible, institutional decor. Like someone drafted in a middle-aged college porter to do the interior design. On the plus side it’s clean and smack bang in the centre of town. Also comfortable and quiet until someone decided to start digging up the road at 7.30am on a Saturday morning. Hope the hotel authorities complain to the Council on behalf of guests. Somewhat ruined our experience.

The room was clean and comfortable and had everything I needed. Even though there was a small wardrobe in which to hang clothes, a coat hook somewhere else would have been good, however. The room service was a little hit and miss - one day, I had a clean mug, etc., but no replacement coffee/milk/biscuits, and another, replacement coffee/milk/biscuits, but no clean mug etc., so perhaps something to note?

Location is amazing and service is attentive - especially for such a small hotel. The room itself was as advertised - decent bed, good shower, floor-standing AC (which wasn't needed) and good heating. It's not the 5-star Ritz - but a great value and perfect for someone looking to be in the middle of anything. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel. Choose a single self contained room. The room was a good size with everything you needed in the room. I was surprised to see a sink in the room. The bathroom was very small and had a toilet and shower. The shower was small but sufficient and toiletries etc were provided.

The location is convenient to central Oxford. Rooms were clean and well maintained. Staff was very helpful.

Great location and very friendly service - twin room felt small for 2 adults.

Anon

Clean and efficient and economical (relatively) for an Oxford centre hotel.
