The focal point of village life for well over a century, the Baiting House was traditionally where drovers and waggoners climbing the hill with their horses would stop for “bait” (the local word for food, or a small snack). The earliest census records go back to 1840, when a wheelwright called Peregrine Perkins occupied the property and had a useful sideline as a beer maker.

Having fallen into disrepair at the beginning of the current decade, the Baiting House closed completely early in 2015, but has been totally refurbished and re-born since being bought by local couple Andrew and Kate in September 2015.

Cibo & bevande

The kitchen at the Baiting House takes full advantage of the amazing variety of quality produce available from its local area and nearly all of its ingredients are sourced from Herefordshire, Worcestershire or Shropshire. The only ingredients where they have to look further afield is for fish, given that all three of these counties are landlocked.

The passion for fresh, local ingredients is what led to the unprecedented award of an AA 2 Rosette for culinary excellence within 12 months of the Baiting House re-opening after extensive refurbishment.

The Baiting House also plays host to a number of local sports teams and has a pool table.
