The Mitre Inn is situated in the small village of Sandford Orcas, just three and a half miles north of Sherborne, tucked in the rolling hills of the Dorset countryside. The pub was originally built in 1851 as a cider house but now as a free house, we sell beer and cider from local breweries such as Apex Brewery, Fine Tuned and many more.
The present owner, Steve, took over the pub in June 2023 and has added an additional parking area as well as developing the substantial beer garden (complete Spring 2024). The pub scores high on TripAdvisor and booking.com and was recently awarded 5 stars in its food hygiene.
They have two high standard letting rooms, boasting en- suite shower rooms. Steve has a beautiful pub dog 'Buddy', who will welcome you throughout your stay and whilst the pub is dog friendly, unfortunately they are unable to allow dogs to stay in the internal letting rooms. However the external Shepherds Hut is available so your four legged companions are more than welcome!
Guests can use the pubs car parks throughout the duration of their stay free of charge. Check in times are between 12-3pm however special provision can be made by contacting the pub directly.
They serve traditional cooked English breakfast as well as fruit, cereal and yoghurt which is included in the price and served between 7-9am. Guests can help themselves to the tea and coffee making facilities provided. The pub menu consists of homemade soups and snacks and a selection of traditional hearty dishes such as home cooked ham, egg and chips, pies and steaks. The food is served Tuesday PM-Sunday lunch time and evening (please note the pub does not serve food on Mondays and is closed Monday & Tuesday lunchtime). If you have any special dietary requirements, please let us know in advance of your stay, we already have a selection for Vegetarians, Vegans, Gluten Free etc.
