Overview

This 3.5 acre walled garden dates back to around 1700 but was probably extended around in the 1760s. It's huge walls, one heated on the north side, are in good condition. The walled garden has a dividing wall down the middle that separates the vast kitchen garden with a smaller ornamental pleasure garden. The kitchen garden is unusual for containing an internal walled area designed to maximise the south facing aspect, and used to contain exotic (for the time) fruit such as pineapples. Today, Garry and the team are maintaining and enhancing the herbaceous borders and flower beds, and the walls also.
