The Old Mill is a converted Mill House set in the peaceful countryside, nestled in its own valley, tucked away in 100 acres of beautiful County Durham countryside between Consett, Lanchester and a short drive from Durham City and Newcastle. The Old Mill at Knitsley offers unparalleled beauty and relaxation the whole year round, whether you're having a romantic night away, a fairy tale wedding or simply your Sunday Lunch.

Set against the gorgeous backdrop of the County Durham countryside, The Old Mill boasts a beautiful restaurant serving fresh, homemade dishes with locally sourced ingredients seven days a week. Our light and airy conservatory restaurant allows for gorgeous views of the countryside and wildlife whilst you eat and relax, whilst the neighbouring bar with its traditional log fire and wooden beams is the perfect place to unwind after a long day.

Enjoy a drink outside by the stream and feel yourself unwind as the water ambles under the bridge whilst you watch the resident family of ducks in the stream, or enjoy a candle-lit meal for two followed by bubble-bath and a glass of wine in one of our luxurious guest rooms.

The restaurant is open from 1200-2000 Monday ClOSED all Day Tuesday. Thursday, 12.00 until 20.30 Friday and Saturday and 12.00 until 5pm Sunday serving fresh home-made food, prepared from locally sourced ingredients, we also offer a full á la carté menu, Sunday roasts, afternoon teas, alongside a lighter lunch and a sandwich menu.

Children are always welcome and we offer smaller portions and children’s menus.

Each of the 6 suites at The Old Mill are unique and gorgeous, so full of original features and bags of character that you’re sure to enjoy your stay and wake up refreshed and ready for a day out exploring all the sights of North-East England. All rooms offer en-suite shower rooms, Freeview television and tea/coffee making facilities.
We have wifi available in the bar of the Old Mill and limited connectivity in some of the suites.
