Glendoe Estate – North Bank, River Oich
Glendoe Estate is the proprietor of the North Bank of the River Oich on the renowned Ness system, famed for its early-running Spring Salmon. The Estate offers approximately 3.5 miles of fishing on the North Bank, starting from the estuary at Loch Ness and extending upstream.
The season runs from 15 January to 30 September. The beat provides a genuine opportunity for an early-season springer in January as fish move upriver towards the River Garry. Prime Spring months are typically March to May, although the beat continues to produce fish through the summer grilse run and again in September as salmon push towards the headwaters.
There are 10 noted pools on the beat, offering a mix of classic streamy fly-fishing water and deep glides that hold fish throughout the season. Wading is generally comfortable, and access is straightforward via a forestry track running the length of the beat, followed by short walks into the pools.
Anglers are advised to use a 13–15 ft double-handed rod to cover the water effectively. Popular fly patterns include Monkeys, Willie Gunns, and Cascades.
Please note that water levels on the River Oich are influenced by upstream hydropower operations, and therefore flows can vary depending on hydro activity.
