The Myvatnssveit beat on the Laxa River is justly claimed by SVFR to be one of the best brown trout fisheries in the world. The river is unique with fast flowing runs, deep bays, riffles and pools, all set in an outstanding are of wilderness. These are big trout, with an average size of 51cm, and present in large numbers. The catch in 2024 was 3843 fish. FIsh below 35cm and above 60cm must be returned, otherwise anglers may retain up to two per session. Catch and release is an impressive 82% and anglers are encouraged to do their bit. The beat accommodates 14 rods with ease along its winding length. Vehicular access is quite good, however anglers will need to walk to some of the best fishing spots.
The schedule is as follows: fish a half day in the afternoon on day of arrival, followed by full days fishing, and then fish a half day on the morning on day of departure. This means you will get, for example, four full days fishing spread over five calendar days. The exact beat rotation will be established at the Lodge on your day of arrival.
There is a cosy Lodge, known as The Temple, which is available to anglers. It has 13 doubles and 5 single rooms. All meals (three per day) are included in the price.
