Recently refurbished accommodation adjoining the Golden Lion a coaching Inn situated in the village of St John’s Chapel in Upper Weardale. The area is known as The Roof of England with fantastic views all around on the high Pennines.
This is where you can explore one of the most beautiful areas in England. Fantastic walks all around either by the rivers in the valleys or on the high windswept fells where only the call of the curlew can be heard. The night skies are amazing, with some of the least light pollution in the UK. It’s a perfect place to explore The Durham Dales and all the north of England has to offer including the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District, Northumberland, and the Cities of Durham and Newcastle.
The Golden Lion is a friendly local where you will find well kept ales and a traditional menu offering local produce and of course good old fashioned hospitality.
