Panoramica

L'Ancient Gatehouse è un hotel e ristorante a conduzione familiare che offre un mix di cortesia e professionalità in un ambiente rilassato ma elegante, situato di fronte alla famosa facciata occidentale della Cattedrale di Wells e al Cathedral Green.

Le camere sono speciali e spaziose, dotate di bagno privato, alcune con letti a baldacchino e molte con vista sul Wells Cathedral Green e sulla famosa facciata occidentale della Cattedrale di Wells. Tutte le camere sono state progettate e arredate da Laura Ashley e dispongono di TV a schermo piatto, set per la preparazione di tè e caffè e acqua minerale gratuita proveniente da Glastonbury o Cheddar Spring.


Storia

The Ancient Gatehouse Hotel incorporates the Great West Gate which dates back to at least 1473, part of the original city wall which would once have completely encircled the city, cathedral and palace. Its use as a hotel can be traced back to the 17th century when it was known as The Mitre Hotel.

Breakfast is served between 7.30am and 9.30am weekdays and 8.00am and 9.30am weekends.

The Rugantino Restaurant has a unique atmosphere created by a historic setting and welcoming ambience, with its friendly staff and warm surroundings it provides the ideal setting for that special meal. The restaurant also prepares traditional English table d'hôte menus which can be enhanced by a choice of wines, spirits and beers available from the bar. Open Monday - Sunday, lunch 12.00pm-2.30pm, dinner 6.00pm-10.00pm. A dinner upgrade is available with all rooms.

Brufani's Steak & Gourmet Burger Restaurant in their sister hotel situated across the street is the only chargrilled steakhouse in the area and is ideal for an alternative menu during your stay. Open from 5.30pm until 9.30pm Brufaani's has a separate children's menu.

Directions: On entering Wells, follow signs for Hotels, the hotel is located on your left hand side, in the gatehouse of the old city wall opposite the Cathedral.

From M4 – Exit junction 17 signposted Chippenham A350. Follow A350 south past Chippenham in the direction of Trowbridge until you reach the A361 to Frome. Stay on the A361 until you are in Shepton Mallet and then take the A371 towards Wells.

From M5 – Exit Junction 23 signposted Bridgwater. Follow A39 through Glastonbury to Wells.

From A303 – Follow A303 towards Yeovil. Turn right at Podimore roundabout onto the A37 towards Shepton Mallet. Follow the signs for Wells on the A371.

Nearest Train Station: Castle Carey is a short taxi drive away.
