The Phelips Arms is an 18th century inn set in the heart of the beautiful Somerset village of Montacute.
We serve a selection of Palmers fine ales and Thatchers cider, as well as mouthwatering and hearty pub fare. We serve food daily from 12noon - 2:30pm and 6pm - 9pm, (no food Sunday evenings or Mondays excluding bank holidays).
We also have four lovely B&B rooms, an enclosed beer garden, a wood burning stove for those chilly winter nights, and a newly refurbished function room with skittle alley.
The Phelips Arms is situated next to the National Trust property Montacute House, which is open all year round and offers several fascinating tours. The Elizabethan mansion and its stunning gardens have featured in productions ranging from the 1995 Hollywood blockbuster Sense and Sensibility to the BBC’s recent period drama Wolf Hall, starring Damien Lewis.
Montacute House and its eponymous village are built from golden Ham stone, cut from a quarry on the top of Ham Hill. Ham Hill Country Park is just 10 minutes from the pub and offers stunning panoramic views as far as the eye can see, with glorious walks centred on an Iron Age hill fort.
The Phelips Arms was named after the man who built Montacute House, Sir Edward Phelips, who was Master of the Rolls and prosecutor during the trial of the gunpowder plotters.
We are 15 minutes from the Haynes International Motor Museum, the UK's largest exhibition of the greatest cars around the world.
With over 400 amazing cars and bikes from nostalgic classics of the 50's and the 60's such as wonderful Bentley's and Rolls Royce to exciting super cars like Jaguar XJ220.
The Fleet Air Museum is one of the South West's leading tourist attractions and well worth a visit. The Museum is 17 miles away at Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton.
The dog friendly room includes doggie bed, bowls and treats - maximum of 2 dogs, for an additional £10 per night.
