Magdalene (pronounced "maudlin") College began life in the early 15th century as a Benedictine hostel, in time coming to be known as Buckingham College (1428), before being re-founded in 1542 as the College of St Mary Magdalene. It is now one of the 31 constituent colleges of the University of Cambridge. Its re-foundation as Magdalene College was largely the work of Sir Thomas Audley, Lord Chancellor of England under King Henry VIII. Audley also gave the College its motto, 'garde ta foy', keep your faith. The College's most famous son is Samuel Pepys, whose unique library was donated to the College upon his death. It is now housed in the Pepys building, the College's most architecturally significant single building.

How to find Magdalene College:
By Road
From the M11, take Junction 14 onto the A14, then exit at Junction 32 and follow signs to Cambridge city centre. There is no parking at Magdalene (except for pre-arranged access, loading, or unloading), please follow signs for public parking. By Rail
Frequent train services run to Cambridge Station from London Kings Cross, London Liverpool Street, and major London airports.
Magdalene is about 1.5 miles from the station, a walk of roughly 30 minutes.
By Bus
National Express runs coach services to Cambridge from major towns and cities across the UK, with frequent routes from Central London and Stansted Airport. The Stagecoach X5 service also connects Oxford to Cambridge via Milton Keynes and Bedford.
Cambridge has five Park & Ride sites around the city. The Madingley Road Park & Ride stops on Bridge Street, near Magdalene. For more details, visit the Cambridge Park & Ride website.
