Iceland is host to some of the greatest atlantic salmon fishing in the world, and the Langa is one of its finest rivers. It originates in Lake Langavatni and flows 30km through stunning scenery down into the sea near Borgarnes, offering a wide range of conditions for the fly fisher in its 93 named pools. It is usually fished with a single handed 9-10ft #6-8 weight rod , and is a fly only water. The river is lightly fished with just 8-12 rods each day, and has returned a healthy ten-year average catch of 1300 fish, with a mix of grilse and MSW salmon. Access to the river is very good with car parking available along its length.
The schedule is as follows: fish a half day in the afternoon on day of arrival, followed by full days fishing, and then fish a half day on the morning on day of departure. This means you will get, for example, four full days fishing spread over five calendar days. The exact beat rotation will be established at the Lodge on your day of arrival.
Fishers are accommodated on a full board basis in the luxurious Lodge, which sits high on a bank overlooking the river. There are 12 double ensuite rooms. It is worth keeping in mind that rod-sharing is allowed on this beat.
